Johansson is highest grossing actress ever
US actress Scarlett Johansson is officially the highest grossing actress of all time, according to Box Office Mojo.
On its list of highest-earning film stars, the 31-year-old has been ranked 10th in Hollywood, behind nine of her male counterparts. Her films have raked in US$3.3 billion (S$4.5 billion) at the US box office.
She is also the youngest among the top-10.
US actress Cameron Diaz is the next highest-grossing actress at No. 19 and English actress Helena Bonham Carter closes in at No. 26.
'Stupid' for Avatar films to face Star Wars
It appears that last year's box-office blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens failed to awaken anything in Avatar director James Cameron.
In a recent YouTube interview, the Canadian film-maker admitted that he did not think the sci-fi movie helmed by J.J. Abrams was as good as the first six instalments that George Lucas either directed or produced.
"George's group of six films had more innovative visual imagination," he said.
The 61-year-old also said The Force Awakens "was more a retrenchment to things... and characters you had seen before".
He did not deny the box-office appeal of Star Wars' latest sequels, and admitted he delayed the release of his Avatar sequels to avoid having to "go head-to-head with Star Wars..."
"That would be stupid."
More non-white Academy voters
In the wake of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences isn't taking any chances moving forward.
The most recent class of 683 invited members to the voting board is the largest and most diverse that the Academy has ever had - 46 per centare female and 41 per cent are people of colour.
They include Indian actress Freida Pinto, British actor Idris Elba (above) and US-Japanese director Cary Fukunaga.
This year was the second consecutive year in which no actors of colour were nominated for the acting categories at the Oscars, sparking widespread criticism.
In response to the backlash, the Academy announced an affirmative action programme with the aim of doubling female and minority membership by 2020.
It said in a statement: "This class continues our long-term commitment to welcoming extraordinary talent reflective of those working in film today."
Tomlinson seeks joint custody
Singer Louis Tomlinson of UK boy band One Direction has reportedly filed for joint custody of his five-month-old son Freddie Reign.
The 24-year-old is requesting that he be given 50-50 physical and legal custody with his ex-girlfriend, Miss Briana Jungwirth.
According to TMZ, Tomlinson is unhappy with the "inconsistent" access he has to his child.
He has relocated to the US to be closer to his son, and currently pays around US$15,000 (S$20,000) in monthly child support.
I've been often told to shut up because I'm a stupid celebrity. But you know what? I don't care. Now is the time to be loud. Louder than the loudest troll on the Internet.
