Movie Review: Our Brand Is Crisis (NC16)
The reliable Sandra Bullock doesn't deliver this time, but the fault cannot be pinned on her entirely.
She plays "Calamity" Jane Bodine, who comes out of a self-enforced retirement to be the spin doctor for Bolivian presidential candidate Pedro Castillo (Joaquim de Almeida).
A key reason for her return is to take down her nemesis Pat Candy (Billy Bob Thornton), who serves as the political strategist for Pedro's competitor.
There is great chemistry between Bullock and Thornton and their scenes bring out the laughs.
Unfortunately, they are dragged down by the uneven story, one that can't quite make it as a political satire or slapstick comedy.
Despite the earnest efforts put in by the Oscar-winning leads, Our Brand Is Crisis doesn't give you enough to make you want to care for the characters, let alone the story.
