Movie review: A ROYAL NIGHT OUT (PG13)
Sarah Gadon was born to play a princess.
She has that graceful poise, regal bearing and porcelain complexion that make her a believable royal, like the would-be Queen Elizabeth II.
The story is supposedly based on a true event where on the night of Victory in Europe (VE) Day on May 8, 1942, Elizabeth and her sister Margaret (Bel Powley) are given that one night of freedom and allowed out of their castle.
Mayhem ensues when they get separated, so Elizabeth spends the night on a wild goose chase to find Margaret.
The scriptwriters can't take much artistic licence and revel in the scenes where Elizabeth shares romantic moments with airman Jack (Jack Reynor) in case they get into trouble with the actual British monarch.
Still, Gadon does a good job as the lead, but the film belongs to Powley, who plays her hyper wild child with such naivety and relish.
Fluffy, fun and all-round charming stuff.
