The Rock steals the show at the MTV Movie Awards

2016 MTV Movie Awards co-host Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson shows off wit, rapping skills, dance moves and drool-worthy abs

Dwayne Johnson should consider switching careers.

The US actor, best known for being Hollywood's go-to action hero, has proven he can be a comedian, rapper, dancer and host - all rolled into one big beefcake package.

Johnson, 43, was in top form at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards held in Los Angeles last Saturday.

Together with co-host Kevin Hart, the dynamic duo showed off their emcee skills, including a surprise rap about Leonardo DiCaprio's Oscar-winning movie, The Revenant.

The energetic number saw them being accompanied by dancers clad in bear costumes.

It also featured actors Rebel Wilson, Adam DeVine and Anthony Mackie jumping into the sequence.

Johnson and Hart, the stars of upcoming action-comedy Central Intelligence, which opens here on June 16, made a grand entrance dressed as characters from Mad Max: Fury Road.

Johnson upped the ante by mimicking a scene from the George Miller blockbuster, complete with apocalyptic costume and flaming guitar.

The muscleman also unleashed his inner geek.

He excitedly proclaimed to the audience that he belonged to Hogwarts house Hufflepuff, right after Hart announced that they'd be screening a preview of the Harry Potter spin-off film, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

In another instance, he stoked the Marvel-DC rivalry by roasting all the actors linked to the Marvel movies, such as Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Chris Pratt.

"Chris Evans, Superman and Batman are going to slap you back into the Fantastic Four," declared Johnson, dressed as Samoan Superman, while Hart was the Dark Chocolate Knight.

The annual awards show celebrates the best and most irreverent movie moments, and the winners are selected by fans.

So it was no surprise that this year's top honours went to JJ Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The movie led with 11 nominations and beat out the likes of Jurassic World and Avengers: Age Of Ultron for movie of the year.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which grossed more than US$2 billion (S$2.69 billion) worldwide, also gave its star Daisy Ridley her first breakthrough performance award.

FUNNYMAN

Another delighted winner was Ryan Reynolds, who took home the golden popcorn trophy for best comedic performance for his work in Deadpool.

In doing so, he beat seasoned comedians like Will Ferrell, Hart, Melissa McCarthy, Wilson and Amy Schumer.

In his acceptance speech, the 39-year-old Canadian actor gave a shout-out to his actress-wife Blake Lively.

"Everything I do is to make her laugh," he said.

"Especially the sex."

Another hilarious winner was McCarthy, who crowd-surfed her way to the stage to claim the Comedic Genius Award.

"I'm the first woman to receive this award, but I am certainly not the first one to deserve it," said the 45-year-old, who can be seen in upcoming comedy The Boss, which opens here on April 21

"My mother taught me not to fear being the butt of the joke, not to worry about being likeable or perfect, and to lovingly go for the kill," she said.

And the winners are...
