Beyonce and Adele to battle it out at Grammys
Beyonce's Lemonade leads Adele's 25 in nominations
It's going to be a battle of the superdivas come Feb 12. All eyes will be on Beyonce and Adele as both powerhouses are competing for the top three categories.
Beyonce's Lemonade and Adele's 25 have been nominated for album of the year, while Beyonce's track Formation will go up against Adele's Hello for both record and song of the year.
Beyonce, 35, leads the nominations for the 59th annual Grammys with nine nods for her album Lemonade. Adele, who received five nominations for 25, won these top three prizes in 2012.
Beyonce and Adele, 28, have enjoyed an extremely fruitful year.
Lemonade tackled issues of race and infidelity and was a cultural phenomenon, while 25 sold more than 10 million copies in the US in less than a year.
The singers' successes helped keep the music industry afloat this year with strong record sales.
Beyonce is the most nominated female artist with a total 62 nominations and if she wins eight come February, she will surpass US bluegrass-country singer and musician Alison Krauss as the most-honoured woman in Grammy history.
Rihanna, Drake and Kanye West are also among the most nominated with eight apiece.
While these nominations did not come as much of a surprise, having David Bowie out of the album-of-the-year race is a glaring snub.

Bowie's Blackstar, which was released two days before his death in January, was heralded as a master work, yet the album ended up in the alternative music album category.
It earned three other nominations: rock song, rock performance (both for song Blackstar) and recording package.
The surprise nominee honour goes to actress Amy Schumer. The 35-year-old comedienne earned not one but two of the most unlikely nominations for best spoken word album, as well as best comedy album.
James Corden of the Late Late Show is set to host this year's ceremony. - WIRES
