Sense of deja vu at Sammi Cheng's weekend concert
HK star admits Saturday night's concert was a duplicate of last year's show
It felt like a major case of deja vu.
But that did not matter to fans who were at Cantopop diva Sammi Cheng's concert, held over two nights during the weekend.
The 43-year-old Hong Kong singer-actress was in town for her Touch Mi World Tour Round 2 at Resorts World Sentosa's Resorts World Ballroomon Saturday and last night.
Last August, Cheng held her first Touch Mi World Tour gig at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Cheng herself appeared to acknowledge the similarities between last year's show and this year's ones.
Addressing the 5,000-strong crowd in Cantonese after an opening act comprising songs like Shocking Pink and Finale, she said: "It's because you guys are 'foolish' and are willing to see me again and again. Thank you for being 'foolish', so I can be here again."
Miss Joanne Low, 29, who attended last year's Touch Mi concert and Saturday's show, said she was slightly disappointed that the song list was exactly the same.
The operations manager told The New Paper: "She has so many songs to play around with... It was a bit boring for me as I was expecting something different."
But she remained impressed with Cheng's singing and said she enjoyed seeing her idol again.
"She's so funny in person. I like that she's always being herself. She managed to create a great atmosphere, even though Singaporeans tend to be quite shy," she said.

JOKES
She was not afraid to joke about her poor attempts at speaking in Mandarin and her fear of tripping on stage in her 10-inch heels.
"I hope I don't see videos of me falling on YouTube," she said.
She also mentioned the pain she experienced when she went through a depression, expressing her darkest moments in a medley comprising the song Chase (by late Hong Kong singer Leslie Cheung) and her own song, Chase Again.
She was then joined on stage by guest performer Kenny Chan from Hong Kong a cappella group C Allstar for a duet, Time Reveals.
"Sometimes, we don't understand why things happen, but time will tell and time heals," said Cheng.
Miss Deborah Raymond, a 37-year-old finance director, said that her favourite moment was when Cheng sang the theme songs from two of her most well-known movies, Love On A Diet and Marry A Rich Man.
It was especially poignant when scenes from her films were played on screen and co-stars like Andy Lau and Eason Chan shared funny memories of working with Cheng.
Miss Raymond has been a fan of Cheng for about 20 years, but it was her first time watching the singer live.
She said: "It was very memorable, as I grew up with these songs. It was like a walk down memory lane."
