And I don't want the world to see me / 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand / When everything's made to be broken / I just want you to know who I am
The Results
Besides becoming one of the biggest alternative rock staples of the 1990s, Iris also remains one of the biggest crossover hits ever, crossing over from modern rock radio to pop and adult contemporary radio, reaching No. 1 on all of these formats and becoming the most-played song of 1998 there.
It peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed on the chart for 14 weeks, but it hit the top spot on the Radio Songs, Mainstream Top 40, Alternative Songs and Adult Top 40 charts.

Originally written for the soundtrack of the 1998 romantic flick City Of Angels, Iris was later included on the US rock band's sixth album Dizzy Up The Girl, which went triple platinum.
At the 41st Grammy Awards, Iris received nominations for Record of the Year, Pop Performance by a Duo or Group and Song of the Year.

Don't expect the same alternative pop-rock anthems from Goo Goo Dolls' 11th album Boxes, which was released last week.
Frontman-singer Johnny Rzeznik, 50, told Entertainment Weekly: "Everyone changes; you have to change. I didn't want to make the same record again."
The duo of Rzeznik and bassist Robby Takac, 51, started working with new producers and writers from genres a little more removed from their own, like EDM.
And while they tested some production boundaries on their last album Magnetic (2013), Rzeznik felt it only scratched the surface.
He told Digital Trends: "(Boxes) sort of became an extension of Magnetic, but (it) is more tightly focused. The material is stronger."
