How to get that make-up right for TNP New Face
Look your best at the New Face walk-in audition with tips from M.A.C.'s senior make-up artist
The right make-up could get you through to Round 2 of The New Paper New Face 2015.
That said, M.A.C.'s senior make-up artist Beno Lim has pointers for newbies.
The 46-year-old, who helps create "the look" a model needs for runway shows, will be working on the faces of New Face 2015's contestants and he has some recommendations for those who are attending Saturday's walk-in audition:
- Come with a "natural warm" palette, which means shades of brown, peach, orange; or
- "Natural cool" make-up (pink and plum).
And when applying your make-up:
- Keep it light - don't do heavy, party make-up.
- Fake lashes are fine, but stick to the natural-looking ones.
- Keep the lipstick in natural shades; avoid excessively bright colours.
- Use foundation, preferably liquid or cream, from your "colour family".
- Have good lighting when applying make-up, just enough to not cast a shadow.
For those who don't like or use make-up often:
- Make sure you groom your eyebrows beforehand, just brush up the eyebrows.
- Wear a natural lip gloss on the centre of the lip.
Practice makes perfect, Mr Lim said.
Getting the right foundation is the first step.
And to avoid an unnatural look - like you're wearing a mask - don't buy the product off the shelf.
Go bare-faced and try it on half of the face to check how exact the shade is.
Apply foundation from the centre of the face and blend it following the facial hair. And don't overdo it.
Mr Lim recommends the new foundation from M.A.C. called Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation, which he plans to use for the girls in the competition.
He said that with this product, one can find an "exact match" in skin tone.
But the final touch is the most important one.
Mr Lim advised: "Use make-up to enhance your best feature, but the best way to carry the make-up is with a smile."
*Mr Lim will be conducting a make-up workshop on Saturday at 1pm at Bugis+, just before the walk-in audition. He will teach you how to do a face suitable for casting.

If you’re worried, just keep smiling! That’s more important than makeup you have on.

Wear only an adequate amount of make-up. Heavy makeup makes girls look less confident of their own looks.
