Meet the family who built a tiny house on wheels & roamed across the country in it
They are not like the typical family.
Every day, nomadic pair Jenna Spesard and Guillaume Dutilh and their pooch Salies get the chance to wake up to a different view.
Two years ago, the couple decided they didn't want to work their boring jobs anymore and opted to live out their dream: Travel journalism.
“I was browsing the Internet and found out about tiny houses,” Mr Dutilh told BuzzFeed News.
“I was like, 'What if we could quit our jobs and live a life of travel journalism in a house we built ourselves?' So that’s what we did.”
And they're not the only ones who travel in a tiny house.
Tumbleweed, a building company that began constructing tiny houses in 1999, has started a community of people who travel with their houses.
Mr Dutilh said:
“The people we meet who live in tiny houses tend to be much more free-spirited than the people we met in our jobs.
“Their priority isn’t money and nice things, but freedom and enjoying life and the beauty of everything around them.”
They got their friends to help and, within a year, had built their very own little home from scratch.
Ms Spesard, 28, and Mr Dutilh, 30, have been on the road for six months now, living off her travel writing, his photography and donations from supporters all over the country.
They meet other people who live similar lifestyles and shoot video blogs on their houses.
Appealing lifestyle aside, the chosen home has another perk: It's more environmentally friendly.
“We’ve done calculations and our imprint is now half of that of the average American couple,” Mr Dutilh said.
“Because the house is so small, it takes so little heat, water, and electricity to keep it up, and we can live a cheap, low-impact lifestyle.”
They have planned to travel for a year, possibly ending in Colorado.
“We could either stay in Colorado and enjoy the beauty of the environment,” Mr Dutilh said, “or if we’re still not losing money on the trip, we could continue for as long as we want.”
