Marriage 'will happen sooner or later' for Jeanette Aw and longtime boyfriend

She picked up the All-Time Favourite Artist title as well as a record six trophies at the Star Awards a few weeks ago.

Now, local actress Jeanette Aw has added another feather to her cap.

On Saturday, she will be launching her second book, Sol's World: Somebody To Love, which will be sold at $18.90 at all major bookstores.

With things going smoothly in her career, will marriage be on the cards for Aw this year?

The 35-year-old star, whose long-time boyfriend is a Caucasian man known only as Marcus, told The New Paper in a mix of English and Mandarin: "We are in a very stable relationship and we talk about marriage openly. We know it will happen sooner or later, it's just a matter of time.

"I am a traditional girl. I will have kids only after I get married. Ideally, I want one boy and one girl, but we will see how it goes."

Aw has always been fiercely private about her personal life, choosing to deflect questions about love.

And things were no different during our interview yesterday, although she obliged with a few short answers when probed further.

On her love for children, Aw said: "When I was in university, I considered majoring in child psychology so that I get to interact with kids.

"When I do charity events, I also veer towards those involving children."

But she is no rush to have any of her own. "I am always prepared to have children but I am waiting for the time to come."

FIRST BOOK

Her first book, a called memoir Jeanette Aw: Definitions, was released three years ago. It revealed many personal aspects of her life including a breast cancer scare and playing mother to her three godchildren.

Sol's World: Somebody To Love is a pictorial book about a little girl named Sol who is looking for answers in her life.

Aw, who wrote the story and drew the illustrations, said: "My first book allowed people to understand me a little better.

"In the second book, I will let the girl be the main focus and I step behind the scenes to participate in the creative process."

She added that Sol means sun in Latin and it represents positivity and hope.

In a way, the girl is a mini-caricature of her. Like Aw, Sol has big eyes and big hair.

And like Sol, Aw has been through periods when she felt lost.

Recalling those times, Aw, who entered showbiz in 2001, said: "When I was just starting out, I didn't know how to express myself well and I felt scared.

"But most importantly, I've learnt not to take people around me for granted even when I am working towards my goals."

The busy star, who will start filming for the blockbuster drama The Dream Makers 2 this month, laments her lack of a much-needed vacation.

"I wanted two weeks of leave, but it wasn't approved," she said.

"The last time I went on a holiday for leisure was to Bali two years ago and I felt really relaxed.

"If I could, I want to do a two-week road trip in New Zealand. That would be very fun."
