Hey! Is that Indiana Jones? A non-fan's take on the new Star Wars teaser
The new Star Wars teaser managed to collectively 'awaken' every nerd in the world. Social media has been flooded with their reactions.
And when I say flooded, I mean grown men and women have shed tears over the two-minute long trailer.
And when was the last time I cried? Watching this priest reacting to the teaser.
I don't hate Star Wars. When I see the word "Sith", I immediately think it's a typo, not a villain.
The disdain I reserve for the fans. The ones who look down on anyone who isn't delirous at the sight of a bleeping dustbin on wheels.
Few are as adorable as Father Roderick above.
SO what does a non-fan make of the trailer?
1. Okay, I guess this is part of the Abu Dhabi tourism campaign... right?
The teaser's admittedly beautiful opening shot shows a desert planet.
Part of the movie was filmed in Abu Dhabi. That means real desert, in line with JJ Abrams' promise that the movie won't be relying too much on CGI for its visual effects.
Can they build that crashed Star Destroyer in Abu Dhabi, too. It does look impressive.
Will we get lightsabres upon arrival at Abu Dhabi? The voiceover (presumably Luke Skywalker) did say: "You have the power too". And I believe him.
Because you now have a new power to annoy the nerds. THe planet is called Jakku. But keep referring to it as Tatooine and watch their frustration.
Well, there's only so often you can ask "So which one is Spock?"
2. This is how I look without make up on.
3. This had better be adapted into a theme park ride.
Not too far-fetched an idea. Disney is apparently looking into including rides based on the new Star Wars movies in its Disneyland theme parks.
4. I want to be just like the new droid, BB8.
Running to catch the bus would be so much better if I could roll like this.
7. To accept her hand or not to accept?
And... he goes for the arm grab instead. Men...
6. Worst hide-and-seek player ever
6. Look, Indiana Jones!!
Though I have to congratulate the film makers on making Harrison Ford look more animated than he has done for a decade (or two).
7. When I saw Chewbacca (who may have gone for hair rebonding), I did almost cry.
My first thought was: "Gosh, do I look like that to other people? I haven't done my eyebrows, or removed my moustache in ages."
(I have inherited the hairy face genes. To paraphrase the trailer - that force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. My sisters have it.).
