Not easy being working mum, says Stefanie Sun

She is a talented singer who has sold millions of albums, put Singapore on the Mandopop map and seems to have it all.

But there is at least one thing Stefanie Sun is a total flop at.

Sun, who has a two-and-a-half-year-old son with businessman-husband Nadim van der Ros, said: "Once, I helped my son cut his hair. When I was done cutting, it was so bad that I called my hairstylist at 10am and said, 'Can I come over now? I need you to salvage my son's head.'"

The 36-year-old added with a laugh: "Even my husband looked at it and said that I had to fix it."

Sun was speaking to the local media on Friday night after she performed at Sing, Love - The Concert, alongside local rapper Shigga Shay, at The Coliseum at Resorts World Sentosa.

HOME-GROWN

The one-hour gig, which was a musical tribute in celebration of Singapore's 50th birthday, also saw home-grown talents such as The Sam Willows, Jimmy Ye, Joanna Dong and Corrine May take to the stage.

Sun has been busy for the past one-and-a-half years, performing 26 shows all over the world to promote her latest album Kepler.

She said that for her, being a working mother who is away from home most of the time was not easy.

She added: "I feel like it's two very different things. As a working mother, I am pursuing that sense of who I am and everything is about me.

"As a mother, there is no time to think about myself. I need to focus on my son all the time - his well-being, his education, his meals. I hope to be able to spend more time with him."

And this is why Sun is deliberately choosing fewer projects for the second half of the year.

She has no plans for a second child as she is "still adjusting" to her mummy role.

She then jokingly added that she wouldn't be "in time for" the SG50 Baby Jubilee Gift.
