Stefanie Sun: Great at singing, awful at cutting hair
Stefanie Sun is the local singing superstar who has put Singapore on the Mandopop map and seems to have it all.
But there’s at least one thing she’s a total flop at.
Sun, who has a two-and-a-half-year-old son with her businessman-husband Nadim Van Der Ros, recalled: “Once, I helped my son cut his hair. When I was done cutting, it was so bad that I called my hairstylist at 10am and said, ‘Can I come over now? I need you to salvage my son’s head’.”
The 36-year-old added with a laugh: “Even my husband looked at it and said that I had to fix it.”
Sun was speaking to the local media on Friday night after she performed at Sing, Love - The Concert alongside local rapper Shigga Shay at The Coliseum at Resorts World Sentosa.
The one-hour gig, meant to be a musical tribute in celebration of Singapore’s 50th birthday, also saw homegrown talents such as The Sam Willows, Jimmy Ye, Joanna Dong, Corrine May and more take to the stage.
Sun has been busy for the past one-and-a-half years, performing 26 shows all over the world to promote her latest album Kepler.
For her, being a working mother away from home most of the time was not easy.
She said: “I feel like it’s two very different things. As a working mother, I am pursuing that sense of who I am, and everything is about me.”
She added: “As a mother, there is no time to think about myself. I need to focus on my son all the time - his well-being, his education, his meals. I hope to be able to spend more time with him.”
And this is also why Sun is deliberately choosing less projects for the second half of the year.
She has no plans for a second child as she’s “still adjusting” to her mummy role.
“I don’t think I will be in time for the SG50 Baby Jubilee celebration!”
