Must-see MVs
Why you should give Lingo Lingo a second chance, plus Girls' Generation campy, silly and colourful Lion Heart
TOSH & BUNZ
LINGO LINGO
To be honest, Lingo Lingo deserves applause for being the closest a local music video can get to K-pop standards.
Produced to promote an SG50 featurette celebrating Singlish, it has been slammed by netizens for its scenes of fast cars and a private jet (so disconnected from the everyday Singaporean!).
In its defence, Lingo Lingo is frivolous, flashy, and fun. The MV also boasts cameos by today's hottest Ah Boys To Men stars Wang Weiliang and Maxi Lim. To criticise it any further would be nit-picking.
GIRLS' GENERATION
LION HEART
Hands down the K-pop group's most colourful video since 2013's I Got A Boy, Lion Heart is part camp, part Old Hollywood - check out the gorgeous retro frocks - and part silly. In a good way of course.
The storyline is hard to believe but imaginative.
All members of the octet find themselves falling head over heels for a man in a lion mask, but by the end of the video, they realise he's been playing them.
5 SECONDS OF SUMMER
SHE'S KINDA HOT
Clearly targeting their core fan demographic (read: teens and tweens), the Aussie pop-punk band have injected their new video with tons of cartoons and cool graphics. Devil's horns, angel wings, dollar signs - you get the picture.
I love the opening sequence where the guys laze aimlessly outside their suburban house, as an animated cat falls from the roof into a puddle of water.
