Pop stars pooped
Our resident Kiss92 DJ/journo says young stars these days are weaklings
So Charlie Puth has cancelled the remainder of his Don't Talk tour.
The US singer, 24, has reportedly been down with a flu over the past month and he finally pulled the plug on his shows on Sunday via his various social media platforms.
"Resting and taking time off the road is the only way I can get better and start performing for you again," he wrote in an Instagram post.
Honestly, I'm not surprised. This current crop of millennial pop stars seems remarkably fragile.
The most fragile of all is Selena Gomez. In August, she cancelled her ongoing world tour and then entered a rehab facility that would help her deal with panic attacks and depression - terrible afflictions that are perhaps side effects of her lupus.
Zayn Malik has cancelled shows due to anxiety issues.
Ellie Gouldingscrapped her tour earlier this year due to exhaustion.
Camila Cabello from Fifth Harmony bailed out of a recent concert due to anxiety.
What's going on?
I think I might have some idea.
The people who are becoming pop stars these days are not equipped to be pop stars. They are simply too weak.
Rising up via YouTube or The X Factor or Disney, they become famous without subjecting themselves to the gruelling labour that getting famous once entailed.
Bands used to have to relentlessly do gigs, starting off in dingy clubs.
They had to work like dogs and hone their craft with only the slightest hope of ever being discovered.
The ones that couldn't cut it would fall to the wayside.
EVOLUTION
It's evolution at work.
The pop stars of old were truly heroic figures, tough and savvy enough to survive on the road.
Those who struggled to cope would self-medicate with booze or drugs, and carry on as best as they could.
Stars these days are chosen based almost solely on their pretty faces.
They're delicate, gracile creatures - the furthest thing from robust, the furthest thing from beefy dudes like Bruce Springsteen.
Though he's now 67, his shows are up to four hours long, and he performs, night in, night out.
Or how about Blondie? Or The Rolling Stones? Or Sting? Or Alice Cooper? Or Joan Jett? Or Guns N' Roses?
Sorry, but the YouTube generation just can't cut it in the real world.
