Stay tuned for star power
From Niall Horan's solo act to a rumoured Selena Gomez performance, expect good stuff from this year's American Music Awards
Music fans can expect a series of great performances at this year's American Music Awards (AMAs) on Nov 20 at 8pm US time at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Bruno Mars, Green Day, The Weeknd, Fifth Harmony and Twenty One Pilots are just some of the pop stars who will take the stage.
The star-studded show will be hosted by supermodel Gigi Hadid and funnyman Jay Pharoah.
Hadid's boyfriend Zayn Malik is also nominated for New Artist of the Year.
"To be the winner's girlfriend, you don't want to embarrass him, but you also want to be super excited for him," Hadid, 21, told Teen Vogue.
"I'm just going to try and not be the embarrassing girlfriend. That's my goal."
Hip-hop artist Drake has set a new record, with 13 AMA nominations in a single year, smashing Michael Jackson's 1984 record of 11 noms.
Trailing Drake is his ex Rihanna (right), who has the second most awards this year, with seven nominations.
Here are the five highlights we are looking forward to at this year's AMAs.
ARTIST OF THE YEAR
This is the biggie award of the night and US fans have voted for their top five artists: Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande.
Bieber is definitely a contender for the title, after winning Best Song for his single Sorry and the Best Fans award at the recent MTV Europe Music Awards.
But we think Rihanna also has a good chance of scooping the award, as the Barbadian singer was also honoured with a Video Vanguard Award at this year's Video Music Awards.
NIALL HORAN'S SOLO PERFORMANCE
Malik is not the only ex-One Direction member to go solo.
Horan (above), who took the stage with One Direction at the AMAs from 2013 to 2015, will perform solo at the show for the first time, singing his new single This Town.
"It's an award show I've got incredible memories from and I can't wait, (it's) gonna be a huge night!" the 23-year-old Irish singer posted on Twitter.
SELENA GOMEZ'S COMEBACK?
Word has it that Gomez (above), who has been in rehab for anxiety, panic attacks and depression resulting from her lupus diagnosis since August, will be making her comeback on the AMAs stage.
Though Gomez, 24, has not been announced as an official performer, the International Business Times reported hearing from a source that she may take the stage at the show.
Besides being nominated for Artist of the Year, Gomez is also up for Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist.
STING WILL SLAY
Music icon Sting (above) will receive The American Music Award of Merit at this year's AMAs and perform a medley of his hits.
We can expect to hear his new single I Can't Stop Thinking About You and possibly hits from his band The Police, like Message In A Bottle and Every Breath You Take.
It will be the 65-year-old British singer's debut performance at the AMAs and he joins previous The American Music Award of Merit winners like Paul McCartney, Bon Jovi, Whitney Houston and Annie Lennox.
LADY GAGA'S THEATRICS
The flamboyant 30-year-old singer (above), who released her new album, Joanne, last month, is one of the show's most anticipated performers.
She wowed audiences in 2009 by lighting the stage on fire while performing Bad Romance. She also appeared as a Lady Godiva-like figure in a long, flowing blonde wig and white man-powered horse on the AMAs 2013 red carpet.
We are intrigued to see what Gaga has in store for her Little Monsters this year.
