Man in M'sia cheated of S$42,600 by online girlfriend he never met
A grocery shop owner named Shen, allegedly lost more than RM110,000 (S$42,600) online to a woman he has never met, but claims to be his girlfriend, Guang Ming Daily reported.
The 35-year-old victim from Mentakab, Pahang said he got the information about the woman, who also claimed to be from Mentakab, through a smartphone application.
He said that the woman repeatedly asked him to lend her money for many reasons.
One of the reasons was to pay the medical bills for her sick mother.
"She said if I did not help her, she would be forced to be a prostitute. So I banked in RM15,000 for her in July last year," said Shen.
The grocer said that the woman stopped contacting him since April.
Only then did he realise that he was duped.
