The New Paper New Face: Walk-in auditions your last chance

It is the last chance to join The New Paper New Face 2014 modelling competition.

The walk-in audition will be held on Saturday at Bugis+.

The New Paper New Face is now in its 22nd year. This year, it is presented by Subaru MotorImage with official apparel from Levi's and official shoes and accessories from New Look.

Hopefuls will have to do a catwalk on stage in front of an audience and a panel of five judges, including 2006 New Face finalist and current Miss Asia Pacific World Singapore Pooja Gill, and editor of herworldPLUS Niki Bruce.

Those who make the cut will be invited to the closed-door audition on July 5, before the top 25 contestants are chosen.

New Face 2013 Finalist Ferlin Leung, 22, recalled her moment on stage: "It can be quite intimidating, but you just have to walk up and do your own thing."

The student at Singapore Institute of Management under University of London added: "You have to connect to the judges, smile and let your confidence shine to catch their attention."

First runner-up Jade Rasif, 20 - who also won the subsidiary title Miss Vivacious - said: "I hadn't done a catwalk before the audition, so I was worried because it was my first time."

To calm nerves, the National University of Singapore student suggested: "Imagine the judges already like you. Talk to the other girls in line. Friendly conversation can take your mind off nervousness and put you at ease."

New Face 2013 winner Noelle Woon nearly didn't audition.

The Nanyang Polytechnic student said: "My mum read about New Face in The New Paper and asked if I wanted to join, because she knew I wanted to try modelling.

"At first, I didn't want to join. But after a while I thought if I didn't take the chance, I would regret it... so I just went for it!"

It was her first time in a modelling competition.

The 17-year-old said: "I was very nervous because I've never been in this kind of thing before, but I was also very excited."

And her advice is to have a friendly face in the crowd. In Noelle's case, it was her mother.

"As my mum was there, I looked to her for support. And her constantly feeding me with positive comments and good vibes helped me to gain more confidence, which replaced my nervousness with excitement."

Noelle went on to win $10,000 and a feature in Her World magazine.
