Police nab housebreaker who stole items with a fishing rod
If you live in the East, you might have been scratching your head over the whereabouts of certain things like your handphone or your laptop which you clearly remember leaving on the table.
It could very well have been stolen.
The Singapore Police Force has announced that it has taken into custody a suspect for allegedly breaking into HDB units in Simei, Tampines and Pasir Ris.
The 45-year-old man is believed to have used tools like a fishing rod, bamboo poles or brooms to lift items such as laptops, handphones, thumb drives, wallets and bags off residents' tables.

The Police were acting on several reports filed this month and studied CCTV footage to identify the culprit.
The man was arrested on Wednesday night in the Tampines Street 21 area and charged in court on Friday with Housebreaking and Theft by Day, an offence that carries a maximum jail term of 14 years in prison with caning.
To prevent similar cases from occurring in the future, police have sent out the following reminders to advise the public:
- Never leave valuables and bags near openings in your house, such as windows or doors which are within reach by outsiders.
- Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and/or padlocks;
- Lock your window grilles before going to sleep or when no one is at home.
