Stop, swerve, then crash
Taxi, car and truck involved in pile-up at Lentor Avenue
It was a lucky thing nobody was waiting at a bus stop along Lentor Avenue yesterday.
A three-vehicle pile-up involving a taxi, a car and a truck cut so close, the taxi mounted the kerb and smashed into the bollard.
Bollards were installed at many bus stops here after a spate of accidents some years back which involved vehicles crashing into commuters.
Yesterday's accident happened along Lentor Avenue, towards Ang Mo Kio, near the Sungei Seletar Bridge.
Mr Png Suan Kim, 58, the driver of the truck, said a car had stopped suddenly and a Malaysia-registered Proton just behind it screeched to a halt to avoid it.
Although it avoided the car in front, a taxi travelling just behind could not brake in time.
In trying to avoid the Malaysia-registered car, the taxi swerved to its left, cutting into the bus lane. But it still crashed into the Proton before smashing into the bollard at the bus stop.
Mr Png's truck also could not stop in time and slammed into the back of the taxi. When The New Paper visited the scene, Mr Png was trying to get the parts of the taxi's rear bumper lodged in the front of his truck out.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force and the police said they got a call at 1.33pm. An ambulance was sent to the scene.
The driver of the Protoncomplained of pain in his neck, and the taxi driver, 43,hurt his arm while the passenger in the taxi, 44,suffered cuts.
They were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for treatment. Mr Png was the only person with no visible injuries.
