Acres undercover checks reveal poor practices at dozens of pet shops & farms
Lack of clean drinking water, small cages which overly restrict animal movement, and uncomfortable flooring - these are some of the poor practices, which breach basic animal welfare conditions, discovered by Animal Concerns Research and Animal Society (Acres) during its undercover investigation at pet shops and farms in Singapore.
The two-month long undercover investigation, conducted between March and May this year, involved the surveying of a total 29 pet shops and 12 farms.
The group, which revealed the findings of its investigation this morning, found that 21 out of 29 pet shops, and 10 out of 12 farms, breached one or more of the 10 criteria used by Acres for assessment.
Acres Head of Campaigns, Ms Noelle Seet, said that Acres has submitted its findings to Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) for further investigations.
