Body of missing elderly man found on BKE
The decomposed body of a man was found in the grass next to the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) towards Woodlands Checkpoint at about 9am yesterday.
The man's daughter-in-law, Madam Mabel Yeo , 44, told The New Paper yesterday evening that he had been missing since June 5.
Identifying her father-in-law as Mr Ow Lew Bin, 78, Madam Yeo said: "We spent about four to five hours each day looking for him."
She also went on Facebook to appeal to the public to help look for him.
Madam Yeo wrote in a Facebook post yesterday: "We searched everywhere but we just didn't go (to) this walk(ing) path of BKE. Everything is too late now."
She tagged the post with a sad emoticon with the words, "feeling heartbroken".
Madam Yeo said Mr Ow, who lived in Marsiling, often went for evening walks on his own. It had been his habit for more than 20 years.
"He would buy 4-D or visit the hawker centres and the market nearby," she said.
This was the first time he had gone missing but the police brought him home once after he got drunk.
Her father-in-law was a quiet man and they did not talk much. But when they did, he would chat about his days as a lorry driver, she said.
SAD
Madam Yeo said Mr Ow could have been sad over his younger brother's death about a month ago.
Her husband is coping by keeping himself busy and "will remove the homemade notices we pasted all over Marsiling", said Madam Yeo.
She thanked members of the public who had helped search for Mr Ow.
"It's touching that they tried their best to help us. We really appreciate it."
Some money and a personal document were found on Mr Ow's body. Nearby were empty bottles of alcohol, reported Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao.
A police spokesman told TNP that they are investigating the unnatural death.
