Come join in the fun
From travelling to conquering their fears, last year's New Face finalists share what makes the contest so special
Don't be shy. Just do it.
This is the advice that last year's The New Paper New Face finalists have for girls thinking of taking part in this year's competition.
Last year's winner Diya Prabhakar, 16, said: "The experience was one of a kind. I feel one must try everything once, even if it is not in your comfort zone."
The Jurong Junior College student was one of the 20 girls who made it to the finals.
Open to women of all ages, The New Paper New Face modelling competition is in its 23rd year.
This year's top prize is $10,000 and an exclusive feature in Her World magazine.
Last year's first runner-up Jasmine Sim, 22, still remembers how nervous she was when she took part.
"I had a fear of failing and not (getting into) the second round but I figured even if I did fail, at least I tried," said Ms Sim, a business management student at the Singapore Management University.
"I didn't think so much about winning, even when I made it to the finals. I was just happy to be a part of it and wanted to do my best."
Another finalist, Ms Annmarie Pang, 23, said being part of New Face was an eye-opening experience because she had never modelled before.
THRILLING
"It was scary but thrilling. I decided that there was no room for regrets," said Miss Pang, who graduated from the National University of Singapore last year with a degree in sociology.
"For the walk-ins, I just threw away my nerves and walked out onto the runway in front of hundreds of people."
Ms Syiqah Marican, 20, who placed third last year, said she enjoyed her New Face experience.
The sales coordinator at I-Science Technology said: "The girls were all so sweet to me.
"I got to meet new people, do photo shoots, go to Bintan, get my hair and make-up done by professionals, appear in TNP and did my first runway."
