Get ready, Kit Chan is coming home

Home-grown singer Kit Chan's promises that the stage costumes for her Spellbound Homecoming concert in September will be extravagant, but not too revealing.

The 43-year-old learnt her lesson after experiencing a near wardrobe malfunction while performing at a dinner and dance event many years ago.

Chan told The New Paper during her press conference yesterday: "Normally, my own everyday outfits are not revealing, but on stage, it's a bit different."

She recalled: "Once, I performed until my top was almost dropping off and I didn't even realise it, until the host (of the event) Diana Ser came up to me and the first thing she did was, 'Oh Kit! Can I give you a hug?' and I was thinking, 'Huh?'.

"She hugged me and said, 'Eh... your top is dropping.'

"After that I turned around casually and adjusted my top, but in reality I might have been thinking, 'Oh s***!'"

From suave black and white outfits to glam gowns, the wardrobe for her Singapore Indoor Stadium gig in September will be designed by Hong Kong's award-winning production and costume designer Bruce Yu, who has worked with top stars like such as Sammi Cheng and Stefanie Sun.

The Spellbound tour, which was launched at the Star Theatre in Singapore last June before it went on to China and Hong Kong, ends on home ground for the finale.

It looks set to be a more spectacular affair and will include songs from her new album The Edge Of Paradise, which was released this month and features original material after her 12-year hiatus.

It also marks Chan's return to the Singapore Indoor Stadium after 15 years.

She said: "(The Homecoming concert) was like a wish. I wasn't quite sure if it could be done until, along the way, I realised that the show was completely different, it transformed into something else.

"People who have watched (the Spellbound concert) can watch it again and those who have never watched before definitely must come.

"If it was exactly the same show (like last year's), I wouldn't see the point of bringing it back."

It is likely that her signature National Day Parade song, Home, will still be on the set list and she joked that it is "amazing" she is still "not sick" of it.

Chan said: "It gives me a different feeling every time I sing it, depending on where I am."

Last year, she performed Home for the first time to a foreign audience in Hong Kong, where she was invited to sing at China's National Day event.

She said: "In my introduction, I did say, 'This is the song that I always sing during National Day in my country' and the response was quite good. The audience seemed to understand it."
