He brakes to avoid hitting man lying on SLE
Driver spots motorcyclist lying motionless on SLE. Impact of accident so hard that...
He was driving along Seletar Expressway on Tuesday night when he had to brake suddenly to avoid hitting a man who was lying face down on the road.
"I was so shocked to see him just lying there," Mr Muhd Farhan, 28, told The New Paper yesterday.
The victim suffered serious head injuries and has been hospitalised.
Mr Farhan, a financial advisory manager, was heading to Woodlands MRT station for an appointment when he spotted the injured man in the slow lane at around 11.15pm.
He wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday night: "I was changing from Lane 2 to Lane 3, to exit Woodlands Ave 2 when I saw what look like a log in front of me, I was thinking whether to avoid it or to go over it when only very close did I realise it was a body lying in the middle of the road."
He later saw a damaged motorcycle a few metres ahead of the man and realised that an accident had occurred.
Wanting to help the man, Mr Farhan parked his car on the road shoulder before going to his aid.
He was shocked at the extent of the man's injury.
"I could see a huge cut at the top of his head and there was so much blood," he recalled.
He immediately called for an ambulance, which arrived in 10 minutes.
Mr Farhan said that the injured man remained face down and did not move or make a sound.
Concerned about the heavy oncoming traffic, Mr Farhan and a motorcyclist tried to direct traffic away from the lane.
"I was so scared for him since he was so still. The impact must have been heavy because I couldn't find his helmet and he had no shoes on," said Mr Farhan.
DENTED NUMBER PLATE
He added that the bike box had come off and was on another lane. He also noticed a dented car number plate lying in the middle of lane 2.
A car without its front plate later arrived at the scene, said another witness, Mr Zaidi Kamil, a civil servant.
He saw the police interviewing the driver before arresting him.
A spokesman for the Singapore Civil Defence Force said that the 47-year-old victim was taken conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
The police said that they received a call at 11.21pm about the accident and arrested a 36-year-old driver in relation to the accident.
Investigations are ongoing.
Mr Farhan took pictures of the incident and uploaded them on Facebook in an effort to reach out to those who know the victim.
Along with the photos, he also included the victim's bike plate number as well as his own contact number.
The post has had nearly 2,000 likes and more than 5,000 shares as of Wednesday night.
