Man threatens woman with knife, punches her
Man attacks woman in bedroom, escapes with $1,000 worth of items
A man threatened a 27-year-old woman with a knife after forcibly entering a two-storey shophouse on Sunday morning.
Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao reported that the intruder entered the flat through the woman's bedroom window.
It also reported that when the woman was woken up, the man threatened her with a knife and told her not to shout before punching her continuously.
This resulted in her being admitted into the hospital with concussion.
The man also reportedly took off with almost $1,000 worth of stolen items, including the woman's handbag, credit card and mobile phone.
An elderly woman who lived in the same flat woke up only when the police arrived at the scene.
The 76-year-old told Wanbao that the flat was old and in need of repair. Furthermore, the windows have a faulty lock and do not have metal grilles installed.
She said it would not have taken much force for the intruder to enter the flat through the windows.
The elderly woman also told Wanbao that her bag in the living room, containing almost $400 and a large amount of medicines, had also been stolen.
Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News reported that the younger woman called a male friend after the incident and he called the police.
A police spokesman told The New Paper they received a call for assistance at 5.39am .
A 28-year-old man has been arrested and is assisting with investigations.
POLICE CORDON
A neighbour who lives in the adjacent flat told TNP that she only realised something had happened next door only when she saw a police cordon outside, which barred her from leaving her flat.
Miss Xue Er, 24, who works in a restaurant, said: "I couldn't leave my flat from the back door so I had to go out from the shop downstairs."
Shin Min reported that the two women were planning to move out of the flat in two weeks but have now decided to leave earlier following the incident.
When TNP was at the flat yesterday afternoon, two men who appeared to be in their 60s entered the flat to help the elderly woman move her belongings. The elderly woman and the men declined to comment.
