Miss Universe Singapore 2016 - Shanice Hedger
Shanice has always loved singing and performing. Apart from doing frequent gigs at Skyve Wine Bistro, she has her own YouTube channel, where she belts out song covers.
She joined both seasons of Channel 5 reality TV singing competition The Final 1 and snagged a spot in the final seven in the second season of the show - something she considers her most significant accomplishment so far.
Shanice said: "I think it's one thing to have an amazing opportunity to do what you love, but another to be recognised for your efforts."
What is one cause you would champion if you become Miss Universe Singapore 2016?
I want to help abuse victims with acceptance and rehabilitation. I've always been intrigued by books about the lives of abused children... These books were my only insight into their daily struggles. As a child growing up in a completely safe environment, it struck me that my life is very different from theirs, and I would like to help improve their lives after their bad experiences, or help them out of their current abusive relationships.
Which influential living person would you like to meet?
Beyonce. I'd like to ask her what motivates her to keep outdoing herself, even when it seems like she's done it all, and what inspires such an already inspiring person.
What is one food you cannot resist?
Cupcakes. I could eat a million and never get tired of them.
What's your favourite song to jam to?
My answer to this constantly changes, but for now, it would be Needed Me by Rihanna. Her new album Anti is full of attitude. I'm obsessed with it.
How has your experience taking part in The Final 1 helped you with MUS so far?
It has helped me in terms of composure. I have felt nervous and scared at certain junctures because I lacked specific experiences, but having the ability to remain calm has helped me do my best under unfamiliar circumstances.
