They call because they care
TNP readers tip off to raise awareness on road safety
He was driving to work on Wednesday morning when he saw an overturned car on St Patrick's Road.
The sports utility vehicle had collided with a taxi, shocking Mr Jason Lim, a 38-year-old civil servant.
"I was initially very worried about the people involved in the incident, but an ambulance had arrived, so I was slightly more assured," he said.
Mr Lim decided to inform The New Paper because he wanted to "raise awareness about road safety".
He said he was satisfied with the report, which was published the following day, and was glad to know that no one had sustained serious injuries.
Mr Lim enjoys reading local news and has been a reader of TNP for about 10 years.
INTERESTING
"TNP has a strong focus on heartland news, which makes it interesting to read and relevant to everyday life," said Mr Lim.
The accident on St Patrick's Road prompted another reader, Mr Jeff Cheong, 39, to contact TNP last Friday.
Mr Cheong, who works in advertising, showed TNP a Facebook photo album he created last year, containing accidents that he and other residents living in the area have come across around Telok Kurau Road.
The St Patrick's Road accident was one of them.
"The area has been quite a hotspot for accidents. I have three young kids and I am concerned for their safety," said Mr Cheong.
The scene of the most recent accident was only 50m from Mr Cheong's house on Telok Kurau Road.
A report about his photo album was published in TNP on Saturday.
He hopes his photo album will increase awareness of the frequency of road accidents around that area and prompt drivers to be more careful.
An avid reader of TNP, Mr Cheong said he finds the coverage fresh and concise.
TNP also offers good sports coverage and human interest stories, he said.
For their tip-offs, Mr Lim and Mr Cheong will each receive a $100 Pizza Hut voucher.
