Two hurt after canopies collapse in heavy rain at Tuas Checkpoint
Heavy rain and strong winds yesterday caused two canopies at the arrival motorcycle and car lanes at Tuas Checkpoint to collapse at 5.35am.
It resulted in a massive traffic jam entering Singapore that snaked all the way across the Second Link.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) sent one ambulance after a Malaysian motorcyclist and his pillion rider were injured.
They were taken to Ng Teng Fong Hospital, said the Immigrations and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in a statement.
No other motorists were injured.
The New Paper understands the two have been discharged from hospital.
Ms Carol Kuok, a Singaporean PR who lives in Johor Baru, was stuck in the jam.
She told TNP: "It took me over 70 minutes to clear the checkpoint."
Ms Kuok said there was only one zone open for cars as the other had been closed to facilitate the removal of the fallen canopies.
The canopies were cleared and operations at Tuas Checkpoint returned to normal at 1.45pm yesterday.
