98 contestants through to TNP New Face's Round 2
TNP modelling contest walk-in audition draws more than 200 entries, with 80 making it to the second round
The search for contestants for The New Paper New Face 2016 came to a close yesterday.
Out of more than 600 entries received since the start of the month, a total of 98 girls have made it to Round 2 of the contest.
Earlier this month, a hunt on social media as well as a street hunt on May 22 picked out 18 girls for Round 2.
At yesterday's walk-in auditions at Bugis+, about 200 people registered and 80 of them were picked to go on to Round 2.
Ms Sharon Roberts was one of them.
At 32, Ms Roberts, who is from New Zealand and is now a Singapore permanent resident, was the oldest participant to get a passport to Round 2.
The corporate communications manager said: "I was in the area and I knew (the auditions were) happening, so I thought 'why not?'"
She added: "I love my job, but it's more behind the scenes. This is a chance for me to be in front of the scenes.
"I have seen a lot of (past contestants) go on to do big things.
"I have no expectations (for New Face). If doors open, that would be great."
Another successful participant was Miss Sohee Park.
The 23-year-old Korean said: "I love going on stage. When I go up, I wear different clothes and it's like I can be another person."
Miss Park, a business management student at James Cook University Singapore, said: "I hope that through New Face, more people will know me and I can get more job (opportunities as a model)."
She does not plan to return to Korea.
"I hope to become a model in Singapore," said Miss Park.
Three students who all got their passports yesterday became friends while waiting for their audition.
Students Nuur Imaani Bee Lutfi, 14, Adhistia Kusuma Ningrum, 16, and Fyrza Nur Affifah, 14, became fast friends over just a few hours.
They met one other at the restroom while waiting for their turn and friendship blossomed.
Nuur Imaani said: "We just clicked. We had a chit chat, went to get drinks and our families hung out with each other."
Adhistia said: "I hope we will all make good memories, friends and have fun."
All three said they hoped that the New Face contest would kick-start their dreams of becoming models.
