Drugs found in Ang Mo Kio man's flat
The man involved in the stand-off at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 tested positive for drugs yesterday, said a joint statement from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
After the 48-year-old Singaporean man's arrest, Ice and heroin were recovered from the unit.
The man was arrested yesterday morning after a drug bust in the area the night before.
His arrest was part of a CNB operation to "dismantle" the activities of a suspected drug trafficking syndicate.
Three suspects were arrested and 740g of heroin and 30g of Ice with an estimated street worth of $57,000 were seized.
The operation started on Thursday when CNB officers observed a 39-year-old Singaporean woman suspected of drug trafficking offences. She was believed to be receiving a fresh consignment of drugs when she met a 62-year-old Singaporean man in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.
ARRESTED
Both parties were arrested, which led to the recovery of about 48g of heroin from the woman and about 160g of heroin from the man.
A search of the woman's hideout at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 uncovered about 480g of heroin and 25g of Ice. Officers also raided the man's hideout and seized about 40g of heroin.
Investigations led CNB officers to the 48-year-old man involved in the stand-off.
He refused to open his flat door when officers identified themselves and he threatened to burn himself.
He was also seen holding a chopper.
The joint statement said that the other occupant in the unit was unharmed and that investigations were ongoing.
The Misuse of Drugs Act allows for the death penalty if the amount of pure heroin trafficked exceeds 15g.
