Free flights for Schooling, other Asean Olympic winners
AirAsia is giving free flights for life to all Asean athletes who won gold medals in the Rio Olympics 2016, including Singapore's Joseph Schooling.
The chief executive officer of the Malaysian budget airline, Mr Tony Fernandes, announced the news yesterday on Facebook, reported The Star.
"What an Olympics this was for Asean. AirAsia, which has its roots in Asean, wants to reward those who gave us so much joy," he wrote.
"Thank you to all the medallists for making us dream and believe."
Mr Fernandes said that gold medallists would be entitled to free flights for life. Silver and bronze medallists would also be rewarded, but he did not specify what they would receive.
The announcement came after the Malaysian Olympic contingent's return with what local media have called the nation's best haul - four silvers and a bronze.
The other Asean Olympic gold medal winners are Thai weight-lifters Sukanya Srisurat and Sopita Tanasan, Vietnamese sports shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh, and the Indonesian badminton pair of Liliyana Natsir and Tontowi Ahmad.
