Jack Neo reprises role of Liang Po Po in Channel 8 drama
Local film-maker Jack Neo is reprising his role as Liang Po Po for Channel 8's year-end blockbuster TV drama Hero.
But he is unsure if younger viewers will take to the lovable iconic granny like the older generation did.
Neo, 56, who was dressed yesterday in the signature red vest, floral blouse and matching trousers, told The New Paper: "I have mixed feelings about coming back as Liang Po Po because many youngsters may have heard of and watched her, but they definitely did not grow up in the same generation as the character.
"I think that Liang Po Po belongs more to the older generation."
He added: "Unless the character is repackaged and has a new story targeted towards young people, this phase (of the character) will just be a fond memory of the past."
He was speaking to TNP yesterday while filming a scene with newcomer Hor Ying Ying at Mandarin Gallery's level four female toilet. In the scene, Liang Po Po leaves her mobile phone behind. Hor's character finds it and decides to keep it.

FILM
A movie about Liang Po Po, written by and starring Neo, was released in 1999.
Neo last appeared as Liang Po Po in a skit at last year's Star Awards. He does not have any plans for another Liang Po Po film at the moment.
"I would have to lose some weight first because last time (in the movie she was) 70kg, now I'm 79kg," he said with a laugh.
He added: "I've put on weight, but I can still fit in the costume because it's quite loose and baggy."
