Jail, caning for killing man outside Joo Chiat bar
A former TV assistant was on Monday (Sept 14) jailed nine years and given eight strokes of the cane for killing a man outside a Joo Chiat bar on Feb 5, 2002.
Mohamed Azhar Ayoob, who is now 37, and six others, attacked Mr Zulkefelee Md Nor with knives and wooden poles at about 2am.
Azhar had spotted Mr Zulkefelee at the Lagenda Karaoke Lounge and told his friends he nursed a grudge against him.
They ambushed him outside the lounge, stabbing him with knives and attacking him with poles.
Mr Zulkefelee was pronounced dead at the scene at about 3am.
Azhar then threw his knife into the Kallang River.
When he found out from a friend Mr Zulkefelee had died, Azhar fled to Malaysia the same day.
He was jailed in Malaysia for drug offences in 2011 and repatriated last year, where he was arrested for his role in the killing.
He was convicted of voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon today.
