Kovan murder trial begins
The murder trial of a policeman accused of killing a father and son started on Tuesday (Oct 20).
Iskandar Rahmat, 36, faces two charges of murdering Mr Tan Boon Sin, 67, and his son Mr Tan Chee Heong, 42, on July 10, 2013.
Setting out their case in their opening statement, the prosecution said it will seek to prove that Iskandar hatched an elaborate plan to rob the elder Mr Tan at his home at 14J Hillside Drive, off Kovan Road.
This was to pay off some $60,000 worth of debts to OCBC Bank to avoid being made a bankrupt.
After stabbing the elderly man in the head, neck and chest, he did the same to his son.
Iskandar then allegedly ran him over with a silver Toyota Camry belonging to the elder Mr Tan before escaping.
The son's body was dragged nearly 1km before getting dislodged outside Kovan MRT Station.
