Miss Universe S'pore finalists learn to put their best face forward
Miss Universe S'pore finalists learn how to enhance their features at Cosmoprof Academy
For some of the top 15 Miss Universe Singapore 2016 finalists, a make-up and hair tutorial session at Cosmoprof Academy on Thursday helped improve their skills.
The local make-up artistry and beauty therapy training school is the official make-up sponsor for MUS 2016.
Nikki Tay, 23, says she learnt the proper way to do her eyebrows.
She tells The New Paper on Sunday: "I've always thought I should draw my eyebrows according to their natural shape, but I should actually extend them because my eyes are big.
"And I realised that it's important because after all, the eyebrows help frame the face."
The trainee lawyer is also "very grateful" that she now knows how to highlight her brow bone to enhance her eyes, which are her "best asset".
Nikki was also taught how to curl her hair properly, as it is something she does regularly.
She said: "Sometimes I end up with frizzy zigzags in my hair because I curled it inwards and outwards... but the right way is to curl outwards."
S Sreeveena also managed to pick up useful tips.
SKIN TONE
The 24-year-old design coordinator says: "I have a much darker skin tone so it's a bit more complicated.
"When correcting dark circles under the eyes, I have to use the lilac colour corrector, while other girls (with lighter skin tones) use the orange colour corrector."
Sreeveena says she had always applied foundation first, then concealer - but the correct way is to do it the other way round.
She also learnt that it is better to be more "subtle" and not have an "overly contoured" look.
Ms Angie Soon, the chief executive officer of Cosmoprof Academy, tells TNPS: "You definitely need to enhance the features and create that flawless skin, like the kind of look that celebrities sport on the red carpet.
"If they have imperfections, contestants can apply primer before doing the make-up, followed by concealer."
Mr Clive Ho, a trainer at Cosmoprof Academy who was teaching the contestants about styling their hair, said: "It's important to have healthy and puffy hair because it will look better on stage.
"Hairstyling also depends on a person's face shape, but the most common stage hairstyle is to let it all down because it looks more feminine."
