Put the art in the party
Hey kids, take part in the drawing contest at today's Our Blocks Rock party
No plans for the weekend?
Today's Our Blocks Rock party from 4pm to 10pm at the hard court of Block 235, Bukit Batok East Avenue 5, is the perfect weekend get-together.
Clay art making and paper cutting interest groups from the Bukit Batok East Zone 3 Residents' Committee will be showing their work, which include bears made from clay, and paper cuttings representing the various cultures in Singapore.
Residents can also try their hand at performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, improvised first-aid skills, and other hands-on activities.
ART CONTEST
If you are bringing children along, look out for the harmony-themed art contest. From 4pm and 6pm, children aged five to 12 can draw and colour designs reflecting harmony.
The contest is pre-registered, but interested participants can still register on the spot on a first-come first-served basis. Contestants are required to bring their own colouring and drawing materials.
Bukit Batok East Community Emergency and Engagement Committee chairman and Citizens' Consultative Committee vice-chairman, Mr Lee Chuen Fei, said: "We chose harmony because this event is about creating harmony within the community, allowing neighbours and residents of various ethnic groups and religions, to get together."
For the new Hoover Park Neighbourhood Committee Zumba, the party will help them get new members.
Founder Mak Hui Xian, 27, said: "I feel that zumba brings people together, the young and the old. We'll be doing a 15-minute demonstration to expose residents to zumba.
"I hope it will pique their interest."
Jointly organised by People's Association Panel of Activists for Community Engagement (Pace) and The New Paper, the eighth instalment of the Our Blocks Rock party will also see at least two food vendors returning, Bake Experiments and Little Red Cap.
Mr Fauzi Saini, 32, the owner and baker behind Bake Experiments, said: "The atmosphere, the crowd and the vendors - that's why we decided to return.
"Each place we go to is interesting and people of all of walks of life come to us. It's like we get to know the community and different parts of our small island."
Bake Experiments will be selling various cakes in a jar for $5.50, with flavours such as mango and salted caramel cheesecake, and ondeh ondeh cake.
