Reader who won $6,000 in TNP contest hoping to strike again
He has never missed buying a copy of The New Paper since 1988.
And whenever a TNP contest comes around, retiree Chiew Hock Hai, 69, will buy at least three extra copies.
Such loyalty has reaped rewards for Mr Chiew. In June last year, he won $6,000 in the TNP Bonus Challenge SEA Games Edition.
This time, he hopes to get lucky in TNP's latest Match & Score contest.
"I usually buy four or five copies, but from different locations in Singapore. I'll get a copy from Jurong, Chinatown, and Clementi, or anywhere I happen to pass by," said Mr Chiew, who lives in Bukit Panjang.
"I believe that this will increase my chances of winning."
If he wins again in the ongoing contest, he'll go to China with his wife.
"It'll also depend on how much I can win. But I think I'll visit Yunnan. I haven't been there and would like to see the scenery," said Mr Chiew, who used to work in sales.
In the Match & Score contest, readers can collect images of football jerseys in TNP from Monday to Thursday. The jerseys will feature either a number or a country.
New printing technology will allow every copy of TNP to include a different combination of jerseys.
Hold on to these jerseys and match them to the winning combinations of jerseys published in TNP from Friday to Sunday.
For example, if the winning combination on Friday is "Spain, France, 11, 23 and 7", and the jerseys you collected from Monday to Thursday include these countries and numbers, you can match them to win a cash prize.
Today is the first day these winning combinations are being published.
There is a daily jackpot prize of $1,000. If there is no winner, or the prize goes unclaimed, the amount will snowball to the next day.
There are also secondary prizes of $200 and $100. Up to $31,000 can be won in the contest from June 6 to July 10.
Every week, the colour background of the jerseys will change - these jerseys will be valid only for that week.
Winners must collect their prizes at the SPH News Centre at Toa Payoh North, from 8pm to 9pm on the same day.
