Rui En fined $700, no driving ban
Local TV actress Rui En, 35, was fined $700 on Friday (July 1) for driving without due care and attention.
The accident happened on April 12 at a Clementi Avenue 2 carpark, near Block 331.
Rui En, whose real name is Lu Rui En, lost control of her black BMW, mounted a kerb and collided with a parked motorcycle belonging to Mr Bahrom Sarmiten, 52, at about 4.15pm that day.
Deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Shahla Iqbal had asked for a driving ban of three to four months and a $600 to $800 fine.
The judge disagreed on the ban saying some of the past cases cited by the DPP involved drink driving.
And drink driving was not a factor in Rui En's case.
The judge added there was only slight damage to the vehicles and no one was injured.
The New Paper understands she has already settled compensation with Mr Bahrom through her insurance company.
Outside court, she told reporters: "I'm actually very relieved because I can put this (case) down and let it go. And I will bear full responsibility for my mistakes."
She also apologised for inconveniencing her company, Hype Records, her family and friends.
"I can only say I'm very very sorry.
"And moving on, I really really hope to improve and I really hope to come back better and stronger and give you guys a new Rui En," she added before bowing.
Rui En turned up at the State Courts in a black dress, black blazer and a pair of black heels.
She did not engage a lawyer, pleaded guilty to the charge and paid the fine on Friday.
In court she was calm and looked down most of the time.
