SCDF posts light-hearted follow-up to BMTC's 'Sian Recruit' photo
When it comes to getting social media, few government organisations seem to get the Internet like the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
So when a photo of a Basic Military Training (BMT) recruit who looked like he would much rather be elsewhere went viral on the Internet on Wednesday (Jan 6), it was only a matter of time before SCDF's gears clicked into action.
The life-savers took the opportunity to post a photo of a beaming recruit with his happy family on his enlistment day.
The icing on the cake? The #wearbluenotfeelblue hashtag.
After an hour of posting, the photo attracted more than 375 likes, more than 90 shares and 13 comments, mostly praising SCDF for their wit.
Talk about burn.
SCDF's post seemed to be a light-hearted dig at the Basic Military Training Centre (BMTC), which posted the following photo on its Facebook page among a batch of photos showing recruits on their enlistment day:

Netizens noticed the unenthusiastic look on the recruit's face, dubbing him the #SibehSianRecruit (very bored recruit in Hokkien).
However, the SCDF's post clearly did not go down well with some.
At 10pm on Thursday (Jan 7) night, SCDF posted on its Facebook page an apology.
The post read: "Whether you're SCDF, SPF or SAF, we're all here to serve our nation and let's be proud of it!"
While BMTC has since deleted its original post, the photo has gone viral in a series of memes.
