Street search for The New Paper New Face 2016 starts tomorrow
The search for The New Paper New Face 2016 will kick off with a street hunt at Bugis Junction and Bugis+ shopping malls on Sunday (May 22) afternoon.
From 1pm, New Face 2015 winner Selynna Norhisham, second runner-up Lee Qian Hui and finalists Vanessa Ho, Joeypink Lai and Melissa Poh will be at the malls to spot contestants for this year's modelling contest.
Up to 10 girls will be picked to be put through to Round 2, bypassing the walk-in audition on May 29.
It will bring back happy memories for Miss Lee, 24, because she had been spotted during last year's street hunt.
She told The New Paper: "I'll be looking out for girls who are naturally beautiful and tall and have sharp features and an air of confidence.
"Those girls with heavy make-up on will make it hard for us to scout them since we can't really see how they really look like."
Of her own experience, she said: "I was at Bugis+ with my mum. We were walking around and I was approached.
"(The girl who scouted me) came out of nowhere, so I was quite surprised. I was excited as well, but mostly surprised."
She added: "I knew about (New Face) since it is a long-running contest.
"Since I was shortlisted, I thought it would be a cool experience. I thought that I should just go with the flow, see where it takes me."
MODELLING OFFER
She was made a modelling offer after the contest, but she chose to pursue her post-graduate studies at Nanyang Technological University instead.
Miss Sherine Tan, a senior executive at a private firm, was scouted in a similar manner.
The 25-year-old recalled: "I was at Bugis+ shopping with my boyfriend.
"I saw a bunch of people in New Face shirts and I thought that they must be scouting for New Face.
"So I made sure I was seen by them. I purposely walked in front of them."
Miss Tan advised: "Put on some make-up. Dress nicely, don't be too sloppy or revealing."
Last year's youngest contestant Jessica Goh, 16, was also spotted on the streets.
The student at CHIJ St. Theresa's Convent is now signed under Basic Models Management, but has yet to do a gig.
She offered her tips on how to stand out, saying: "Good skin is very important.
"I think girls who are themselves stand out the most."
"I saw a bunch of people in New Face shirts and I thought that they must be scouting for New Face. So I made sure I was seen by them. I purposely walked in front of them."
