SDC celebrates 20th anniversary with carnival and competition
It was a fun-filled and action-packed carnival as Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC) celebrated its 20th anniversary yesterday.
Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu, who was the guest of honour, unveiled the 20th anniversary logo.
In conjunction with the anniversary, the centre held the seventh instalment of Youthphoria, an annual event for young people, with various indoor and outdoor activities.
There were performances by local music duo Jack & Rai, and games like archery tag.
The carnival also saw the return of the Youth Entrepreneurs Competition.
The competition, organised by the SDC, is a corporate social responsibility initiative to promote social entrepreneurship and community leadership development among young people here.
In its fifth instalment, the competition had 29 teams from secondary schools and tertiary institutions competing to achieve the highest sales at the event.
Items for sale included 3D-printed merchandise, detachable backpacks and Korean street food.
The two winning teams were from the NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Tote-ally US) and ERC Institute (Descendants of ERCI).
DOUBLE
Nearly $22,350 was collected by the teams, double the amount collected last year.
It will be donated to the SDC's adopted charity, The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and charities selected by the teams.
"We managed to win a few items from the games, and we enjoyed ourselves," said Madam Adlin Idris, 34, a teacher who came with her family of five.
They were there to support to some of the participants of the Youth Entrepreneurs Competition.
