SuperKakis super chuffed

For these 55 TNP SuperKakis who have given The New Paper a special place in their lives, last night was our turn to give back.

At the celebration of the opening of Tiger TNP Sports Bar located on the second storey of Shanghai Dolly in Clarke Quay, 55 prizes worth $18,000 were presented to the readers in the sure-win lucky draw.

The winners of the top three prizes - a MacBook Air, an Apple Watch and a BenQ projector - were overwhelmed with joy when their names were called last night.

Ms Eileen Ow, a 50-year-old clerk,showed up because her son could not make it at the last minute. She was ecstatic with the MacBook Air worth $1,300.

She told The New Paper on Sunday: "My son Jarran was so keen to come. I'll be so happy to give him the top prize."

Mr Adrian Lim, 29, a civil servant who walked away with the BenQ projector worth around $1,300, said being part of this SuperKaki event meant a lot to him as he has been reading TNP for over 10 years.

"Being part of this club is something I look forward to now. It is not only about the prizes, it is about making me feel special," he said.

Guests arrived with their partners at 7pm when the party started.

The SuperKakis, who have subscribed to our paper for a minimum of a year, were treated to a delicious dinner of brandied chicken wings, assorted sushi, vegetable pakora and chilli mussels.

DELIGHT

Like administrative officer Susan Ang, 50, who won a Canon photo printer, many expressed their delight at the bite-sized options like har gao, fish bites and mini mushroom and chicken puffs.

There was a free flow of juices and soft drinks. Early birds enjoyed free beer.

Corporate hedging manager Tan Tien Peng, 33, and project executive Tat Tan, 34, who have both been reading TNP for 20 years, were pleased they had a chance to catch up with each other in the private dining area of the sports bar.

Having won a Nexus tablet and an Olympus camera respectively, they were eager to share their wins with their families.

Local stand-up comedian, drag queen Noris, stole the show with her routine, Noris-licious.

Noris, 39, who calls fellow comedian Kumar her mentor, said performing last night was meaningful as she herself has been a loyal TNP reader since its first issue back in 1988.

She said: "I think that TNP has gotten a lot better since it first started. I enjoy the stories a lot."

To TNP's creative editor Ken Jalleh Jr, every smile he saw made the time and effort spent on the event worthwhile.

He said: "For every newspaper, the readers are the most important factor. It is a privilege to get to know our readers up close and personal.

"We want to reward them and give them as many privileges as we can.Everything we do, we do to make them part of our family."
