Which party ruled Twitter on Nomination Day?
Social media has been tipped to be one of the key weapons in deciding the outcome of this year's general election.
Following the official start of the campaign trail on Nomination Day on Sept 1, it looks like the Workers' Party (WP) has won a head start on that front, according to Twitter.
The microblogging site listed WP as the most mentioned political party on Nomination Day, maintaining their top spot from the week leading up to Sept 1.
The ruling party, the People's Action Party (PAP), were ranked second, the Reform Party (RP) third while the National Solidarity Party (NSP) traded places with the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) for fourth and fifth respectively.
PM most mentioned politician
While the ruling party missed out on first place, its leader, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, came out tops as the most mentioned politician on Twitter.
Even though he won't be contesting this election, veteran Singapore People's Party (SPP) leader Chiam See Tong took second place while WP chief Low Thia Khiang came in third.
Mrs Lina Chiam, Mr Chiam's wife who will contest Potong Pasir SMC under the SPP banner, was fourth and SDP chief Chee Soon Juan fifth.
Most engaging tweet
Local humour website SGAG bagged the most engaging tweet on Nomination Day with its photograph featuring their take on PM Lee's encounter with rival Ang Mo Kio GRC RP candidate Roy Ngerng, who is in the process of settling a defamation suit won by Mr Lee.
It received 540 retweets and was 'favourited' 170 times.
Local blogger Mr Brown came in second when he posted a photo of an upside down PAP campaign poster while a tweet from WP's official account announcing their rally on Wednesday (Sept 2) evening in Hougang was third.
