Castaways rescued from deserted island
The US military said it helped rescue three stranded men from a deserted Pacific island, after they used palm fronds to spell the word "HELP" and held up life jackets.
Navy airplane crew members spotted the survivors and shared their location with relatives as well as with ships in Guam.
A small boat picked the men up and took them to Pulap in Micronesia, the US Coast Guard said.
The men were taken to safety on Thursday (April 7), three days after going missing.
They said their 5.8m-long skiff was capsized by a large wave a few hours after departure from Pulap.
They spent the night swimming until they arrived at the island of Fandadik, about 7.5km from Pulap.
Authorities did not provide any further details about the men. - AFP
