3D Jason Bourne film gives viewers nausea

This article is more than 12 months old

A 3D conversion of the film Jason Bourne is apparently causing mass nausea among moviegoers in China.

The fast-action spy sequel starring Matt Damon was released there last week, and those who watched it in 3D complained of feeling dizzy and queasy, and having to dash to the washroom to throw up.

The backlash spread rapidly on social media. Chinese newspaper Global Times reported that moviegoers in Beijing's Chaoyang district organised a protest demanding refunds after catching the film in 3D.

The film was shot in 2D and released in its original format elsewhere. But the paper said only eight of Beijing's 149 cinemas, and nine of Shanghai's 174 cinemas, were offering screenings of the 2D version.

Universal Pictures' Beijing office said on microblogging platform Sina Weibo that it is working with local distributors to arrange more 2D screenings to serve the audience's "diversified moviegoing needs".

Depp-Heard divorce drama continues

The war is apparently not over between US actor Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The 30-year-old US actress had announced that she would be donating the entire divorce settlement of US$7 million (S$9.4 million) to the American Civil Liberties Union and Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.

But Depp, 53, decided to cut out the middleman and donate the money directly to the charities in a series of instalments.

Heard's team slammed his payment plan, saying in a statement: "If Johnny wishes to change the settlement agreement, we must insist that he honour the full amount by donating US$14 million to charity, which, after accounting for his tax deduction, is equal to his US$7 million payment obligation to Amber.

"We would also insist that the full amount be paid immediately and not drawn out over many years."

Seagal meets Belarus president

US actor Steven Seagal rubbed shoulders with Mr Alexander Lukashenko, the controversial president of Belarus, last Wednesday.

Seagal even ate one of Mr Lukashenko's home-grown carrots in the latter's garden.

Presidential press footage showed Mr Lukashenko picking up a long carrot, quickly peeling it and handing it to the 64-year-old martial arts star.

Seagal was in Belarus for discussions with game developer Wargaming, which is famed for its World of Tanks video game.

It was not the first time Mr Lukashenko hosted a celebrity in his home near Minsk.

French actor Gerard Depardieu was his guest for the harvest meal last year.

Parker stops being ambassador for EpiPen maker

US actress Sarah Jessica Parker ended her role as a spokesman for Mylan, the manufacturer of EpiPen, after the company hiked the price of the allergy injector to more than US$500 (S$676).

It was a more than 400 per cent increase since it released the product in 2007.

Parker, 51, became its paid spokesman after using the emergency device on her son, 13-year-old James Wilkie, when she realised he was severely allergic to peanuts.

She wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday: "I'm left disappointed, saddened and deeply concerned by Mylan's actions.

"I do not condone this decision and I have ended my relationship with Mylan as a direct result of it."

Usually I cringe through the (film’s) premiere and hate everything I do. The less I am in a movie, the more I like it.
