What civil servants would say if PM Lee took the #icebucketchallenge
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was tagged by actor George Young in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
Here’s a tongue-in-cheek take on what civil servants may have told PM Lee about whether or not to take up the challenge.
PUB: Sir, this would go against our whole save water campaign. We would suggest not to do it as we might see a surge in water usage after more Singaporeans start doing it too. Not just from the water in the pail, but the showers people take after that too.
National Parks Board: PM, best if you could do it while standing on our grass patch in one of the parks so that gardeners don’t need to water it again.
National Environment Agency: Let us double check first if throwing ice on the ground constitutes littering.
Ministry of Defence: Could this be a new form of chemical warfare? Let’s study the effect it has had on other people who have kena-ed it first before you try it.
Singapore Police Force: Sir, we might need you to apply for a public entertainment licence to do this, especially if you are going to broadcast it on Facebook.
Ministry of Communications and Information: PM, do consider what is the message you want to send by doing this. Will you look cool (pardon the pun)?
Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth: Sir, if you do it, can you donate the money to local charities instead? Donations last year dipped 6 per cent! And can you tag some MNC CEOs too? Corporate donations fell by even more!
Ministry of Foreign Affairs: PM, do you plan to tag any other world leader to do the Ice Bucket Challenge? We should alert you that President Obama has already rejected doing it (he does not need to stand for re-election anyway). It might be easier if you just donate money instead, just like he did.
Ministry of Education: Could we use your video to teach our kids about caring for the needy in our society? We don’t mean the National Day Rally video, but this Ice Bucket Challenge one.
Ministry of Trade and Industry: We could use this video to promote Singapore’s water solutions’ expertise to the world. We don’t just dunk ice, we dunk NewIce.
Ministry of Health: Let us study the impact of so much ice and cold water on someone’s head. If you are doing it, sir, kindly include a Please Do Not Try This At Home tag to go with it? Our hospitals are already overloaded, we cannot take more people coming in to be warded.
