Sun, sand, ‘cheese!’
The New Paper New Face holds photoshoot at Bintan Lagoon Resort
Fire, earth, water and wind.
These were more than mere themes of The New Paper New Face finalists' New Look photoshoot at Bintan Lagoon Resort from July 13 to 15.
Farhana Mazlan, 18, said: "It was my first overseas shoot, so it was a whole new experience. Bintan is very relaxed and serene.
"What I remember most would be the crazy hair. My theme was 'fire' and the girls and I had to have really huge hair. A lot of time was spent on getting it real big and frizzy, and it was definitely interesting."
Another contestant, Annmarie Pang, 22, said: "We were ferried in a buggy back and forth because there were many locations we had to go to.
"The beach was clean and the water clear.
"It was really pretty, and the shoot was a whole new experience for me - getting my face and hair done by professionals, and my styling and photos too.
"I was in awe the entire time. I even danced around the room that had all the clothes and accessories, because it totally felt like the Tyra Suite from America's Next Top Model!"
Jessica Lim, 22, said: "I like beaches, so I liked that the beach there was very clean and the swimming pool great!
"The food was nice and I loved the whole experience."
But Lim's photoshoot was not without challenges.
RUSH
She said: "As the sun was setting, they needed to capture the light so we had to rush the shoot. And there wasn't much wind during that time, which was a key factor for my wind theme.
"So I just pretended that the wind was blowing across my face, giving that 'wind look'.
"And because I was wearing heels, I had difficulty standing in the sand. But I managed it in the end.
"What was most memorable was the dinner by the sea, where I got to sit at a long table with the rest of my team and crew."
Grace Ling, 17, said: "The villa was huge, spacious and air-conditioned. The service was very flexible.
"When we needed more beds, they delivered more beds and pillows.
"The thing that's vivid in my mind is the moment when the shoot was done and our director said: 'Very well done'.
"The comments by the crew on set are very important to me."
The girls also had their share of bonding time.
Farhana said: "Once we reached there, Diya, Iman, Nicole, Jia Yi, Min Ook and I talked about everything from family to school to modelling to food to celebrities.
"We even got the mums involved. Diya's and Iman's mums came along and we got them to tell us some stories.
"The girls are all really nice and friendly, and the hardest thing was saying goodbye."
It was really pretty, and the shoot was a whole new experience for me... I was in awe the entire time.
