Movie Review: Port Of Call (R21)
Based on a true event, this crime thriller stars Hong Kong A-lister Aaron Kwok as eccentric police officer Chong, who investigates the grisly murder of 16-year-old prostitute Wang Jiamei.
She is killed by truck driver Ting (Michael Ning), who strangles her during sex and chops her body up into pieces.
Writer and director Philip Yung takes a slow and muted approach to the film, exploring the societal issues facing young teenagers in Hong Kong.
Kwok's brilliant portrayal of the quirky cop adds depth, while newcomer Ning's chilling impression of a young poker-faced murderer is memorable and even won him Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Horse Awards.
Absorbing and disturbing, Port Of Call is worth a visit.
