Cyclist dies in accident at entrance of construction site at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5
A cyclist was killed in an accident involving a tipper truck on Friday (April 17) evening.
The incident happened at the entrance of a construction site at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5, facing Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2.
The lower half of the victim's body was crushed, according to Mr David Silas, who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident.
The 60-year-old retiree told The New Paper (TNP): "It was really gruesome."
Mr Silas had been cycling on a bicycle path heading towards Punggol when he came across the scene.
"I saw the truck driver squatting down with his face in his hand," he said. "I saw blood on the back wheel of the truck."
Arrested
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it dispatched an ambulance after it was alerted to the incident at 5.25pm.
A man was found dead at the scene, said SCDF.
When TNP arrived at the scene, the entrance of the construction site had been cordoned off by police.
Police said the victim was a 57-year-old man.
The 38-year-old tipper truck driver has been arrested for causing death by negligent act.
Mr Silas said it was part of his evening routine to cycle from his home in Yio Chu Kang to Punggol.
He said he often saw trucks entering and leaving the site at very high speeds.
"There is no hump or barrier to slow them down," he said.
Police investigations are ongoing.
